Bunny Berigan - The Pied Piper (1934-1940)

Rowland Bernard "Bunny" Berigan (Hilbert, Wisconsin, 2 de noviembre de 1908 - Nueva York, 2 de junio de 1942) fue un cornetista, trompetista y cantante estadounidense de jazz.

En 1921, ya toca con una banda local y, muy poco después, participa en varias sesiones con los New Orleans Rhythm Kings, además de integrarse en diversas formaciones universitarias. Se traslada a Nueva York en 1929, y toca en las big bands del violinista Frank Cornwell, de Hal Kemp, Fred Rich y, entre 1932 y 1933, con Paul Whiteman. Después tocará con Jimmy y Tommy Dorsey y con Benny Goodman (1935).

Como músico de sesión, realizó un gran número de grabaciones, entre otros con Red Norvo, Ray Noble, y con su propia big band, que incluía a músicos como Georgie Auld, Buddy Rich, Allen Reuss o el trombonista Ray Conniff, y que editó discos con RCA. La orquesta apenas se mantiene una temporada (1937), debido a la mala gestión empresarial de Berigan.1 Vuelve con Tommy Dorsey una temporada y toca también con su propio cuarteto (1941). Participará también en la banda sonora de la película "Syncopation" (1942)

Ethel Waters - The Collection

Ethel Waters (Chester, Pensilvania, 31 de octubre de 1896 - California, 1 de septiembre de 1977) fue una actriz y cantante estadounidense de blues, jazz, musicales y gospel.

Como actriz fue nominada a un Óscar, siendo la segunda afroamericana en conseguirlo después de Hattie McDaniel.

Sus canciones más famosas fueron "Am I blue?", "Stormy Weather", incluido en el Grammy Hall of Fame,1 y "Miss Otis Regrets". Es una de las más importantes cantantes afroamericanas de jazz y música popular de las primeras dos terceras partes del siglo XX junto a Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Alberta Hunter, Mahalia Jackson, Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald, Carmen McRae, Betty Carter y Sarah Vaughan entre otras.

Henry Burr (15 enero 1882 a 6 abril 1941) fue un cantante canadiense de populares canciones a inicios del siglo 20, actor de radio y productor.

 Nació como Harry Haley McClaskey y uso Henry Burr como uno de sus muchos seudónimos , además de Irving Gillette, Henry Gillette, Alfred Alexander, Robert Rice, Carl Ely, Harry Barr, Frank Knapp, Al Rey, y Shamus McClaskey.

Fue uno de los primeros cantantes de hacer grabaciones acústicas populares y uno de los artistas más prolíficos de todos los tiempos, con más de 12.000 grabaciones de su propia estimación. Su más famosa colaboración fue con The Peerless Quartet .

Lee Morse (30 noviembre 1897-16 diciembre 1954) fue una cantante y compositora jazz y el blues cuya mayor popularidad fue en la década de 1920 y principios de 1930, aunque su carrera comenzó hacia 1917 y continuó hasta su muerte en 1954. Memphis Minnie - Queen Of The Blues

Memphis Minnie es una de las artistas de blues más influyentes, se desempeñó como cantante y guitarrista.

Nació en Algerie, Luisiana (Estados Unidos), en una granja, el 3 de junio de 1897. Su verdadero nombre era Lizzie Douglas. Era la mayor de una familia de 13 hermanos. De pequeña trabajaba cantando en las calles de Memphis para recibir algo de dinero, y adoptó el nombre de Kid Douglas.

Entre 1916 y 1920 recorrió el sur de Estados Unidos junto con un circo. En la década del 20 se casó con el músico Casey Bill Weldon, pero la relación no duró mucho. En 1929 conoce al guitarrista Joe McCoy y se casa con él. Formaron un dúo que duró 5 años y tuvo considerable repercusión en el mundo de la música.

Más tarde se casaría con Ernest Lawlard.

Entre los años 40 y comienzo de los 50, su prestigio creció poco a poco. No sólo cantaba sino que tocaba la guitarra muy bien con gran dominio del escenario. Realizó giras por todo el país con grandes músicos como Big Bill Broonzy.

En 1961 muere su tercer esposo de un problema de apoplejía. Al poco tiempo, ella sufre de un problema similar que le generó problemas para hablar. A fines de los 60 no podía hablar ni tocar la guitarra.

Muere el 6 de agosto de 1973, tras pasar sus últimos días en clínicas y asilos.

Isham Jones & His Orchestra

Isham Jones (Dalton, de Iowa, 31 de enero de 1894 - Florida, 19 de octubre de 1956) fue un músico estadounidense de jazz, saxofonista tenor, contrabajista, compositor y director de big band.

A los dieciocho años, Isham ya dirige orquestas en Míchigan. Se traslada después a Chicago, donde permanece un tiempo tocando el saxo tenor, antes de dirigir la orquesta del Hotel Sherman, entre 1920 y 1924. Isham mantendrá esta orquesta en funcionamiento durante más de doce años, obteniendo un gran éxito. En 1936 disuelve la formación, que se reorganiza inmediatamente alrededor de Woody Herman, convirtiéndose así en la primera big band de éste.1 A partir de ahí, se dedica a la composición, actuando sólo ocasionalmente al frente de bandas hasta 1940, año en que pone en marcha un negocio comercial en Colorado. Trasladado a Florida en 1955, enfermo de cáncer, fallecerá pocos meses más tarde.
